Testing more with aliginate

A few weekends ago I live casted my brothers finger in Alginate.  I tried again casting my brothers hand this time and I mixed the Hydrocast on a one to one ratio instead of the three to one ratio it should have been, and it’s thin soup at best (the end results weren’t as good as hoped).

I left it to dry over the week to see what would happen and found last Friday that it had dried to a solid mass. We were ecstatic to see how it had dried in the Aliginate. After turning over the container the alignate and hydrocast released easily.

As I began crumbling the the plastic feeling alginate away from the solid hydrocast, you could instantly see detail in the hand that the aliginate was able to bring to the table.

Bit by bit, you can really see how the life like hand had become, but settling problems from the thin mixture started to become apparent.

As a test, Jason and I looked over the details in the hand and the overall look, comparing it to Jason’s hand, there were many obvious problems with the process.

The alginate had relaxed over the course of the week and the hydrocast had settled and created a bulging grotesque thumb with bulgeing also occurring in the palm area.

But overall the look of the hand was amazingly realistic and we are excited to take this technique to larger scale.
