Do you want to stay competitive in Search Engines (S.E.O.’s)?

How often should people update their websites or blogs if they want to stay competitive in search engines (S.E.O.’s)?

Making sure your websites content and keywords are up to date is essential for the success of a website. In fact many search engines will not work properly with a website if they won’t update content and with the proper keywords. Having quality original content can increase your websites hits in search engines, (providing your website is optimized; with good “keywords”) but as it starts to look “Stone Age” it will slowly decrease in standing.  The major search engines goal is to get you the “searcher” the best, most relevant information they can, based on the search keywords you entered.

These days information can become outdated very quickly. Some search engines reward websites that regularly update their content, in the belief that the more often it’s updated; the more likely it is to be relevant and “up-to-date”. The Google “Google-bot”, (an automated program) thrives on unique original content published consistently. Every time you publish, Google gets a “ping” asking the “Google-bot” to come back and visit your site. When the “Google-bot” returns to your website and finds something has changed since the last time it was here, it makes a note to come back sooner next time.

The challenge, especially for small business owners, is that they want to update their content often, but they are very busy running their business. Part of the content plan should be a realistic assessment of whether the site owner can write the content, or if they should hire a writer.
